Beautiful picture of the deer!

When I turn the corner into the Gardens, it's like entering another world. Though even in the rest of FH, we're still pretty removed from what's been happening in Manhattan and Brooklyn. The police station down the block put up a flimsy-looking barricade, and now they have a few cops standing outside the station, staring blankly into the street. There's a small memorial to George Floyd in MacDonald Park that teens put up and that a homeless person keeps on dismantling. There was a peaceful protest this past weekend in the Costco mall in Rego Park. There had also been flyers promoting a "loot-in" at the larger Queens Mall up the road -- which seemed like it must have been a set-up, possibly by rightwing trolls -- the Mall boarded up its windows, and a whole bunch of cops were there, but only a few dozen people showed up.

A couple of days ago, during Cuomo's news conference, there was a question about whether the protests being outdoors might mitigate any potential spread. Cuomo said it might, and he also said it was good that the protesters were young -- he specifically said he hadn't seen any 65 year olds in the crowds.

I started wondering why -- protests I have been in, in the past, while certainly skewing young, did span all age groups -- and I wonder how much of it was older people being fearful of the virus, though it seemed like this past week, most people were tired of thinking about the virus and wanted to put it out of their minds.

The squirrel, btw, was outside of the Gardens. I remembered what you had said about the tulips, and I was looking to see if there were squirrels inside the Gardens. I saw a few, but they were timid and ran away. This squirrel just sat there staring at me while I took a bunch of pictures. He wasn't going to let me interrupt his snack time!
